The theory that eggs or broom stand on end during the equinox or when the planets are aligned is a common misconception that has been growing in our society even more recently with the help of social media. I can still remember everyone my sophomore year running around standing their brooms up. None of us even thought twice about it nor did we even try to test the theory and stand our broom up a week later.
The truth is, just like the egg you can stand the same broom up at any time of the year you want. The equinox has nothing to do with it. All it takes is a steady hand and the right broom.
I love learning about all of these common misconceptions that we have in class. It is so funny to me to think that we never even question why something is we just accept it. If you knew anything about space, you would know that the equinox theory is false, but we all go along with it anyway.
